Critical Acclaim

“I’ve read lots of books, and this is certainly one of them.  Some books are great, some are even classics.  This one is short.  Just not short enough.”

“Wait, where is that piece of paper you gave me?  Ok, here it is:  ‘A rollicking good story, with memorable characters, a real page burner!’

Oh, that’s a “t”.  I can’t read your damned writing.  ‘A literary tour de force.  If you just copy this and put your name on it I’ll buy the next round of beer.’  Did you want me to say that part?  You’re a cheap SOB and probably won’t buy anyway”

Bill B, Co-Founder, Old Farts Beer Drinking Club

“A book?  Really?  Well ain’t that something.”

Joe, Junior But Well-Qualified Member, Old Farts Beer Club

“This is the best book I’ve ever read.  But I don’t remember the other one real well, so it might only be the second best.”

Dana R, Retired Old Curmudgeon

I decided not to include the Very Critical Acclaim.

  • Finnegan’s adventures, from his last assignment in Kandahar, Afghanistan, his having to leave the Army and find a “real” job, to his managing a key Army procurement program, are hilarious and improbable – but maybe not as improbable as you may think. It’s a great treatment of a difficult time in any veteran’s transition to civilian life.  Ultimately, Finnegan faces the federal bureaucracy mountain.  He may not be able to move the mountain, but his climb is uproariously funny.

Lieutenant General, US Army (Retired) Robert Flowers

  • Brian Osterndorf’s tale of Finnegan’s retirement from the Army and starting anew is hilarious.  Every retired soldier will see him or herself in this story.  His tongue-in-cheek description of the Defense Acquisition System is masterful as are the creative “solutions” Finnegan and Tiger Corp come up with. You are really going to enjoy this, and the acquisition community may learn a thing or two.

Brigadier General, US Army (Retired) M. Stephen Rhoades

  • Finnegan Begins Again is fiction, but ever so true.  Every active or retired member of the military will fully relate to Finnegan’s experiences.  And if you think military acquisition is dull and dry, read Finnegan Begins Again and you’ll find some of the funniest and wildest ideas ever.  Thoroughly enjoyable, a laugh on every page.
